About the Artist
Camilo Sanin was born in Bogota Colombia. He now resides in Baltimore, Maryland and will receive his M.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art in the spring of 2011. Sanin’s paintings are subtle geometric abstractions that use line, color, and form to challenge our preconceived visual ideals. Sanin combines deeply felt personal experiences with complex perceptual experiences; thereby creating a new narrative that resonates with the viewer. His work has been included in numerous shows in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Florida.
Professor Jennifer Cognard-Black writes, “Camilo Sanin rethinks line and bar, this time to reveal the components of things. With smooth and glossy strokes, Sanin’s paintings seem pressed between glass slides: a butterfly’s wing, a beetle’s back, a droplet of teeming water. Beautiful and exact as snowflakes, Sanin’s images return us…to microscopic views. We are asked to look again – and look more closely.”
